Activities

Built through mapping, dialogue and open workshops.

Neuromorphic Sweden grows from a sequence of national conversations. Two completed Vinnova-funded feasibility studies established the current evidence base and strategic direction.

Partners
ABB, Ericsson, FOI, KTH, Lund University, Saab and Uppsala University

The study combined ecosystem mapping, interviews with more than twenty organizations and an open lunch-to-lunch workshop at KTH in Stockholm on 1–2 April 2025. Its final report identified strong capabilities alongside gaps in coordination, funding, infrastructure, hardware access and cross-stack integration.

Three open workshops engaged around one hundred participants. The resulting focus areas and enabling factors were developed by a broad workgroup and an industrial advisory board.

Vinnova project record

Open workshop series

Four workshops, one national conversation.

The sequence began with national innovation-system design in NIPS and continued through NEUTEC with thematic visions, use cases, enabling factors, research needs and a strategic implementation plan.

  1. NIPS

    Stockholm

At Digital Future Hub, KTH, senior researchers, industry representatives and other key actors co-created directions for a national innovation platform, industrial success, international collaboration, resilience and sustainability.

  2. NEUTEC

    Lund

At Lund University, participants from industry, startups, academia and research institutes developed thematic visions and flagship use cases for telecommunications, edge AI, defence and space, while identifying research, collaboration, adoption and industrial-scaling needs.

  3. NEUTEC

    Norrköping

At the Printed Electronics Arena in Norrköping, the same cross-sector format focused on industrial systems, automation, robotics, healthcare and wearables, connecting application-led flagship use cases with research needs, adoption pathways, international collaboration and industrial scalability.

  4. NEUTEC

    Online

The concluding virtual workshop shared perspectives from industry, SMEs and startups alongside outcomes from Lund and Norrköping, then invited broader discussion of gaps in the thematic visions, flagship use cases and research and innovation ecosystem needs.

What the studies and workshops produced

  • A national capability map and recommendations for an innovation platform
  • A shared long-term vision
  • Five strategic focus areas
  • Example cross-stack research projects
  • Needs for infrastructure, tools, talent and integration
  • A plan for research-to-application pathways
